Saved by Love by Shilpa Suraj

‘Saved by Love’ by Shilpa Suraj was a surprisingly good read for me.

Let me confess that when the book eceived some great feedback from Namrata Sadhvani, a fellow writer friend, I knew it would be a decent read for sure.

The book pans out like a movie in your head. It’s visual, dramatic, and well-etched out. We are taken to Ladakh in the opening scene with Naina, the female protagonist who’s been kidnapped by terrorists. The opening sucks you into Naina’s world, while you cannot help but be enamored by Shilpa’s writing style.

Soon, it introduces us to Arjun, the male protagonist who is a lieutenant and the head of the rescue operation team for saving Naina, who also is the daughter of the Supreme Justice of India. Needless to add, they fall ‘head-over-heels’ with each other during the 2-3 days of the rescue operation as they try to sneak out of sight from the terrorists. Naina is also engaged to a rising star in politics, and the huge social status gap between Arjun and Naina come as thorns in their budding romance.

It’s how Shilpa treats a common romantic trope that makes the book a delightful and memorable read. There are several dynamics and layers thrown into the plot that makes it interesting to explore.

The biggest win of the book, though, is the author’s ability to make her readers emotionally connect with her characters. Arjun, of course, is fantastic and a girl’s dream come true. But more than Arjun, I had a huge girl crush on Naina. You’ll understand once you read the book. It is hard not to fall in love with a girl like Naina. She is brave, resilient, honest, real, perceptive, witty, and wise.

It’s love that makes the world go round. You don’t need to be a romantic person to understand its importance. Love is what makes your life worthwhile. The best part is that it’s fluid and has so many languages to suit every person.

Love is perfectly irrational as we have no self-control on who we are attracted to. ‘Saved by Love’ is an unabashed celebration of the irrationality of love.

I’d recommend the book for its passionate pursuit to tell a good story in a wholesome, entertaining, and unforgettable fashion.
