Getting back on track #Superbloggerchallenge2018

I was a major fitness junkie for many years until a few years ago. I lost the interest to go to a gym a few years back. Exercise and diet didn´t really figure on my priority list. There were other things that occupied my mind and I was in a very comfortable zone. This year, I want to break that lazy hibernation. To be honest, I miss that old lifestyle of working out every day and feeling so accomplished, lighter and most importantly, happier. Yes, I remember feeling happy after every workout. More than that, I think I was also at my healthiest best. I am not obese at all but I am definitely a couple of pounds heavier. This year, I want to get back on track with regular exercise and eating right.

Here´s how I plan to get back on track –

  1. Gym membership: This is not a must for everyone. But, I like going to a gym and doing the cardio workouts there. I am not a Yoga person as yet but someday, I will master that too. But, just not this year. I do know the Surya Namaskar and the Pranayama though and I love them both. Taking my Yoga to the next level may happen in the latter half of this year or in the next. But, hitting the gym is a definite yes. Apart from cardio, I also plan to include some strength training exercises in the mix. Some Zumba on the side via YouTube videos seems plausible considering the fact I love to dance.
  2. Eating right: Honestly, I am an emotional eater. But, I appreciate the self-control and will power that goes into eating timely meals and eating wisely. So, this year my focus will be on eating right. My diet is okay but not ideal. I eat mostly home cooked food which I make. But, I don´t eat enough fruit and my intake of milk needs to go up as well. I drink way too much caffeine and snack irregularly. Those need to be checked for sure.
  3. Sleep: This is another area where I need to get back on track. I go to bed late and wake up really early. So I need to compensate that with sleeping earlier than I normally do.
  4. Schedule: What gets scheduled, gets done. So, that´s what I am going to do. Schedule a dedicated time just for exercising and be more physically active throughout the day. I also plan to schedule the meals for the family a week in advance.

I am simply going back to an old routine that worked well for me in the past. Like a good friend who you meet after a long time and hit it off just like the good old times, I hope my ´tried and tested´fitness routine works out perfectly for me now as well.

What does your exercise routine look like? I would love to know.

    • Hi Dr.Roshan! My dad´s side has a lot of doctors and you remind me of one of them. He was the same …a doc who hardly cared about his own weight. But, today at the age of 70 plus, he´s at his fittest best ever. Tummy all gone…hale and hearty. It´s all in the mind…motivation as you rightly said! 🙂 Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts. Cheers 🙂

  1. You have given some very useful information in your article. Over the years I have unfortunately become rather obese because of a sedentary lifestyle and definitely need to take up a proper exercise routine which I plan to begin soon.

    • Hi Jai! The same story here…once you slip away, it´s easy to go off the track. And, it´s quite comfortable too to not sweat it out. It´s time to get back on track and get moving…one step at a time 🙂 Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thought. I loved your post on mental health. Keep stopping by! Cheers 🙂

    • Hey Varsh! That is great to know..I truly admire people who are in control of their health and fitness. I was like that once upon a time..until I got Time for me to follow suit and get back on track like you. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Keep reading! Love and Cheers! 🙂

    • Hi Neha! Same pinch, huh? Lol…But on a serious note, its time to get active and treat ourselves with more love and kindness. Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts. Love and Cheers! 🙂

  4. Though I don’t need workout much, I feel some physical activity is important for the body. Esp, now that we have house helps our activities have decreased largely. I started Yoga a year back but couldn’t continue after a month, found it too boring. Then I started gym last year in November and got the news of my pregnancy. Again, stopped. But, I have now made a resolution to walk every day. And I hope I stick to it if nothing else. 🙂 #SuperBloggerChallenge2018

    • Hi Rashi! Firstly, Congratulations on your pregnancy! That is great news 🙂 I used to walk regularly in my third trimester. It really helped. And I got back to exercising after a month of pregnancy. 🙂 It really helped me get back in shape after a year. Now, I´ve piled on that weight back ..but determined to get moving 🙂 Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts. Keep them coming in! Lots of love and take care! Hugs 🙂

      • Thanks much, Tina 🙂 haha.., The problem with most moms is they cant lose preg weight and the problem with me is I don’t even know how I lost my preg weight which I so want to gain again. But, in terms of exercise will surely start walking soon daily. Hope you lose weight and I gain weight, in the longer run. 🙂

  6. I really enjoy going the gym. But as I don’t get time now after my son, I stick to doing 15 minutes Yoga as an everyday routine. I often skip that if I have some other more important thing to do but I try to come back to my fitness activity soon.

  7. All the best for your new and improved exercise regimen. I am also in the ‘I need to get back on track bandwagon’ cause I am 6 months postpartum and havent yet organised myself to start again. I swear by yoga, zumba and swimming

  8. Hey Tina.
I actually read your post earlier and commented too. Somehow it’s not there!!! Well, I like Yoga and my body understands it. I also joined Zumba classes a few months back and now do at home whenever I like. I too like dancing. Hope your schedule work as per your expectation. All the best.👍

  9. Yes it’s always good to be in a routine. After giving birth to twins, my health took a backseat like any other mom but this year, I added myself, selfcare, my health also in my priority list. So far I’m able to keep my promise 😊
